Dear rabble readers,

My name is pk. I am an anti-capitalist, award-winning social and feminist entrepreneur. I’m also the founder and former publisher of LiisBeth.com. Today I work as a freelance journalist, writer, creator, senior advisor to many institutions and university educator. I am also a board member and columnist for rabble.ca

Like you, I am a politically engaged person working hard to make sense of the chaos surrounding me. In these times, truthful, grassroots media plays a significant role in helping me stay grounded and hopeful.

We all know the media landscape has evolved. Trust in big and small media companies in Canada of all forms has declined in recent years.

As Naomi Klein said at a Zeteo media event in Toronto this month: “Our information ecology has been poisoned by mis- and dis-information. The media sucks. But some good people are trying to do something about it.”

These good people include the people at rabble.ca

Today, Canada is home to over 217 digital news publications — yet only 36 per cent, including rabble.ca, are independently owned or operate as non-profits. Since its launch in 2001, rabble.ca has been a trailblazer in this space. For nearly 25 years, rabble has been amplifying progressive voices, publishing original stories, producing podcasts and webinars, and giving visibility to grassroots movements.

Since 2001, rabble has been helping folks coast to coast to coast connect. It has consistently fostered deep solidarity, built community and helped shape the Canadian progressive narrative. This is especially important in this moment of growing authoritarianism, displacement, chaos, war, genocide, climate fueled crisis and economic uncertainty.

Yes, rabble’s impact is real — and growing.

But to shape the future we all believe in, we need to expand our reach. A peaceful, just world where all life can thrive doesn’t fund itself — and it won’t be built by billionaires. It’s built by people like us.

If you value the independent journalism rabble delivers and want to help bring it to a wider, younger, more diverse, and politically engaged audience, consider becoming a monthly supporter. Your $12/month isn’t a subscription — it’s a commitment to change.

These days, I hear many people saying “I am really hurting. But what can I do?”

I say: take direct action. Engage in our community. Read rabble.ca
