Early Saturday morning, October 15, 2011, Alexandra Artful Dodger was struck and killed by an alleged impaired driver going the wrong way down a one-way street. Alex was a passionate defender of human rights and an enthusiastic activist who had just months ago accepted a job with Amnesty International after graduating from McGill’s Law School last spring. She has written for rabble.ca in the past (here is her last submission, “Should Canadian students look to Israeli universities to learn human rights?”) and was a long-term babble contributor. She used the handle pencil-skirt and was known for her intelligent writing on student debt, international injustice and feminism.

rabble.ca extends its deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Alex for their loss, and remembers her strong, principled voice as one that affected all who heard it and continues to echo across the Canadian political landscape.
