With the opening of the Deh Cho bridge across the the Mackenzie River at Ft Providence, the NWT Department of Transportation now runs only four ferries on it’s road system.

Prior to the bridge’s construction and last year’s opening, the first ferry in the water was the Merv Hardie at Fort Providence.

So this year our most southern ferry is the M. V. Lafferty ferry across the Liard River on the Highway 1 near Ft Simpson.

So this is a big event for the people of Ft Simpson and is now an “official” sign of summer in the territory.

Ft Simpson’s Rosa Wright brought her video camera down to the Liard River’s shore to record this year’s launch.
