Tell Parliament to oppose Mubarak.
Stop the violence against peaceful protesters.
After nine days of peaceful pro-democracy demonstrations by millions of people in Egypt, President Hosni Mubarak has unleashed a wave of violence against his opponents. Undercover police and armed thugs stormed Tahrir Square today, throwing rocks, Molotov cocktails, and firebombs at peaceful demonstrators. Mubarak’s forces have also attacked media workers, charging crowds on horses and camels. Hundreds of people have been seriously injured and at least one has been killed.
An emergency debate will take place in the House of Commons tonight. The Canadian government must take a stand, and show its support for the millions of peaceful demonstrators in Egypt who are calling for Mubarak to step down and to end his violent attacks on protesters.
Please contact your MPs right away (even if you receive this after the debate in the House of Commons), and tell them you want them to support freedom and democracy in Egypt. MPs’ contact details and a sample message are below:

Dear Prime Minister Harper:
After nine days of peaceful pro-democracy demonstrations by millions of people in Egypt, President Hosni Mubarak has unleashed a wave of violence against his opponents. Undercover police and armed thugs stormed Tahrir Square today, throwing rocks, Molotov cocktails, and firebombs at peaceful demonstrators. Mubarak’s forces have also attacked media workers, charging crowds on horses and camels. Hundreds of people have been seriously injured and at least one has been killed.
It is time for Canada’s Parliament to demonstrate its clear and unequivocal support for freedom and democracy in Egypt. I am writing to you now to ask you to support the following demands:
– Support the Egyptian people’s demand for President Hosni Mubarak to step down
– Condemn the violence unleashed by Mubarak’s supporters and undercover police
– Freeze the Egyptian government’s assets in Canada until Mubarak respects the demands of the Egyptian people
Canada must not support Mubarak in the name of “stability” in the region. There can be no stability in the region unless all its people, including Egyptians, can live in a truly free and democratic system.
I look forward to your speedy response.
Sincerely,
Your Name
