The Council of Canadians Mid-Island-Nanaimo chapter organized a terrific protest march on the streets of downtown Nanaimo this afternoon. Despite the fine-mist of rain, more than 400 people gathered at Pioneer Plaza (near the hotel where our ‘Making Waves: Sinking the Harper Agenda’ conference is taking place) for this march against the Harper agenda, against pipelines and tankers, against austerity measures, and for the better world we all know is possible. The march was positive and spirited and was received with waves from onlookers and horn-honks from a few trucks and cars. The protest march concluded back at Pioneer Plaza with a presentation of a $1500 cheque to the Hub City Cycles Community Co-op in recognition of their commitment to local, participatory, system change efforts, http://canadians.org/blog/?p=17489.
