UPDATE September 3, 2013
Artless Collective (Facebook) is working on “Trapper” a pilot for a new series on TV, “…Check out our very own Mad Trapper, Andrew Stanley of Hay River, as the star of our new reality show! This mini-episode is a demo we developed (with Maxim Bloudov, Amos Scott and ourselves, Jay and Artless) for investors and broadcasters… and its got a lot of people excited. The best thing about this show is that its 100% Made In The NWT! The only question left is which channel you’ll be watching it on. Stay tuned….” See the “pilot” here

[Original post] TheWildNorth’s YouTube channel has over 12,000 [8,000] subscribers and more than 2,857,846 [1,960,000] views of his videos which probably makes him the most watched Metis YouTuber out of the NWT.

With his drawing power and the heavy promotion of the “local traditional economies and provide residents with the opportunity to pursue traditional livelihoods” by the Government of the Northwest Territories I’m quite surprised that he’s not featured anywhere on the GNWT’s Spectacular Northwest Territories official tourism site, but then again… perhaps “political correctness” and TheWildNorth’s ocassionally “strong” and “course” language keeps him off the tourism website and from getting his own reality TV show a la Ice Pilots and Ice Road Truckers!

Shame that an independent worker in a renewable resource industry doesn’t get a chance like that on cable TV. Did you hear that, History TV?

Twenty eight year old Andrew Stanley set up his channel in April of 2010 and has been documenting his life on the land hunting, fishing, trapping and living the traditional bush life with playlists featuring Charlie (his dog), Working with Fur/Skinning, Cooking/Food In The Wild North, Beaver Trapping, Fishing, Hunting and Working The Trapline.

From Febuary 2011, here’s an interview with Andrew Stanley by C.B.C North radio’s Philippe Morin that pretty much tells Andrew’s story.
