Grants can help activists and organizations get access to the cash they need to keep fighting for social justice. Asking for a lot of coin can seem like an endless daunting task, full of rewrites and stressful deadlines – but the payout is more than worth it! Grants come in all shapes and sizes. A little cash can go a long way, so don’t be shy to apply for a few hundred dollars.
The important thing to remember is that a lot of folks lose out because they don’t follow the guidelines specified for the grant. Not only are your chances good, but if you stay within the lines of the application it could mean a lot to your organization or campaign.
Campus Activism has come up with a great guide for writing winning proposals. This sample grant proposal can help you figure out what yours should look like.
The Foundation Center offers a free online course designed to teach non-profits how to write grant proposals. This includes advice on documentation to include and examples of the types of budgets that may be required by the granting organization.
Center for Community Change also created this document (PDF) with simple steps to help you write a polished grant proposal.
