Right now many of us are taking to the streets to protect the values we believe in.   In our increasingly digital world, this means that we may come home to find that people have decided to harass us by doxing us.  What is doxing?  It is when people search for and publish private or identifying information about (a particular individual) on the Internet, typically with malicious intent.   Personal information has been used to attack people since time immemorial.  It is just that it is very easy to find it now and we must learn how to protect ourselves.

Equality Labs has created these guides to address commonly reported issues.  These practices should be incorporated into your regular digital security practices. We must continue to take to the streets to stand up for ourselves, our neighbours and the world we believe in.  However, as Equality Labs states in this recent post “the best defense now is one rooted in information, compassion and self-care for ourselves and each other, and a commitment to collective resilence.”

Equality Labs is a South Asian American human rights start up working at the intersection of story, art and security.
