On Wednesday, your OpenMedia.ca team launched a hard-hitting video about the government’s online spying Bill C-13 – and Canadians from coast to coast to coast have been sharing it far and wide.
If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out right here on the Privacy Coalition website or below. We wanted to cut through the government spin, and make clear that this dangerous legislation would enable a wide range of authorities access to your private life.
Boy did this message hit home with Canadians! OnFacebook, Twitter and other social media sites you helped the video get nearly 7,000 views in no time at all. The video was even the topic of the top two posts on Reddit Canada yesterday with thousands of votes- check out this awesome screenshot:
As word of the video spread across the Internet, it wasn’t long before the media picked up on it too. Check out this great interview with our Steve Anderson on the Huffington Post and a good post by the Georgia Straight as well. Our video was also played in full on popular Vancouver news/talk radio station CKNW, followed by a 25-minute discussion about it. We’ve also been interviewed by media outlets across the country including Newstalk 1010 in Toronto, Burnaby’s Evolution FM, and the Todd Venoitte show in Atlantic Canada.

We succeeded in killing off Vic Toews’ online spying bill. Now we’re building key momentum to defeat Peter MacKay’s attempt to resurrect Vic Toews’ failed plan.
We can do it again.
