Now that the federal election campaign is officially begun, rabble.ca’s work is more important than ever.

rabble.ca presents information that is not widely reported. We work hard to provide you with the information you need to make informed choices in your daily life. Our writers know that what we do together is important and this summer we’re asking them to tell us why they continue to support rabble.ca, and why you should too.

1. Jase Tanner is a videographer based in Vancouver. At rabble, he has recorded and produced material from our interview with Glenn Greenwald, to Robert Lovelace speaking about the connection between Indigenous rights in Canada and the Free Gaza Flotilla. Here’s what he has to say about working with rabble.ca.

I’ve been contributing to rabbleTV for the past few years because I believe rabble offers a voice and perspective that most of Canada’s other media outlets intentionally disregard. In a country that calls itself a democracy, a diversity of opinion and information must be made available in order for people to make informed decisions, decisions that reflect their aspirations and values. So much of what is found on mainstream media outlets represents the interests of a narrow cross-section of this country. Not so on rabble, in my opinion.

Much of my work has been focused on justice for Palestine. Through my association with rabble, I’ve been fortunate to have been exposed, not only to information on this issue that otherwise may have been difficult to find, but perhaps more importantly to information on related issues that broaden my perspective and understanding. 

With the upcoming election, Canada is at a critical crossroads. There are promising signs but which direction we’ll take as a nation is certainly not “in the bag” just yet. I encourage people to check out rabble and support its work in whatever way they can.

2. Amira Elghawaby has been a longtime contributor to rabble.ca as both a contributing editor, managing several issues pages, as well as regularly writing book and film reviews. She is also a human rights advocate who regularly speaks out on social justice issues affecting Canadians. Here are her thoughts on why you should support rabble.ca. 

Since graduating from journalism school in 2001, I’ve watched the media landscape change and evolve drastically. With traditional media contracting, and other forms of media expanding, quantity hasn’t always translated to quality. One thing hasn’t changed though — rabble.ca has been a constant source of progressive news and views and a reliable stop on the information highway. Its team of committed journalists and editors have helped make it an important platform magnifying diverse voices on a range of issues that matter to all of us — as Canadians, and as global citizens.
