Hungry for climate leadership?
In response to the federal government’s decision to abandon the Kyoto protocol?
We are holding a vigil of hope and solidarity at the Constituency Office of Peter Kent, the Minister of the Environment, at 7600 Yonge Street from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 in recognition of the winter solstice.
A march will meet at the South-West corner of Steeles and Yonge at 3:00 p.m. to walk (roughly 30 minutes) to Peter Kent’s office or we can meet you at the constituency office at 4:00 p.m. To get to Steeles and Yonge, at the Finch TTC station, take the #53 or #60 bus North to Steeles, about a four minute ride.
By transit straight to Kent’s office, once at the TTC Finch station, leave the station and go to the Finch GO station — across the street from the TTC Finch station, both on the East side of the street — take the 99 YRT bus North on Yonge Street and get off at the Elgin Street stop. It’s a three minute walk North on Yonge from there. Cash fare is $3.25.
There will be speeches, meditation, poetry readings and music. Please bring a candle and dress warmly.
A symbolic fast will also be held from Wednesday morning to Thursday morning. If you’re fasting, please make sure we know about it — contact us at [email protected]. You’re welcome to break the fast with us at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2011, at Nathan Phillips Square.
