With over 2200 blog entries in 2013 from hundreds of bloggers, there’s no better place on rabble.ca to get up-to-the-minute reportage from a diverse range of perspectives from Vancouver Island to Halifax Harbour, Point Pelee to the Yukon. Over the last week of the year, we will be rolling out a variety of “Best of” lists on all the most important issues covered in 2013.

What a year in Canadian Politics! The Official Opposition took on Stephen Harper over the senate scandal(s), enemy lists (!), program cuts and omnibus bills galore. Rob Ford made international headlines for all the wrong reasons. Quebec’s secular charter did its best to revive the sovereigntist debate with the worst sort of cynical politics. And Canada’s international reputation suffered — not to mention Canadians themselves. Here are a handful of blogs on Canadian politics that stood out this year.

David Climenhaga — Remembering Ralph Klein: Discussing union bargaining styles over the proverbial drink with the premier, March 29

Christopher Majka — The Mind of Mulcair: The leader of the NDP on energy, climate change, and electoral reform, May 7

Karl Nerenberg — Why has the Official Opposition not gained the respect it should have earned?, June 25

Gerry Caplan — Stephen Harper, you need an extreme makeover, July 1

Franke James (bound but not gagged) — Are you on Harper’s Enemy List?, July 27

Krystalline Kraus — It took nine shots for police to kill Sammy Yatim, July 30

Michael Laxer — It’s still time for an adult conversation about taxes, August 17

Nora Loreto — Scoring political points with Québec’s secularism charter, September 10

Paul Orlowski — Taking the Canadian flag off our backpacks, October 27

Penney Kome — Harper’s keynote address: Out of touch and an hour late, November 2

Jesse McLaren — Austerity and the politics of the Ford scandal, November 4
