The Call Out:
The Canadian Veterans Advocacy (CVA) will be organizing a Vigil for Veterans on Parliament Hill to coincide with the first reading of the budget. (potential 1/2 half billion in cuts – Veteran Association of Canada). The object it to present a visual deterrent to the proposed budgetary cuts as they are brought to parliament.
This is not a protest, it is a vigil wherein designed to inform. Canadians of the consequential effects these budgets cuts will have upon disabled veterans of all eras.
The plight of four hundred plus WWII and Korean veterans at St Anne de Bellevue is only one issue. On the West Coast, we have learned that that veterans approved for care have died prior to the services being delivered; that veterans files have been backlogged for up to eight months — that one case manager had 1200 files on her desk. In Quebec, 140 files are in limbo.
Now you, like I, might have been one of the lucky ones. Others have not been so fortunate, some who have served with you. It is not about us, but about what we are. A brotherhood/Sisterhood of arms!
