Dear rabble-rousers,
It’s amazing how much you help us do. People like you have stepped up on every occasion over the past nearly 19 years, to keep rabble.ca blooming: answering the call to amplify the voices of activist journalists, social movements and artists across Canada. We could not do it without you.
On this #GivingTuesday, please consider making us your cause and show some love for non-profit media by chipping in at rabble.ca/donate.
Many of you were there during the Summit of the Americas in Quebec City in 2001, where we officially launched. Since then, many more of you have joined us as we stood in solidarity with the #MapleSpring in Quebec, #IdleNoMore, #BlackLivesMatter, and most recently the fight for climate justice and a #GreenNewDeal in Canada — just to mention a few key moments of our activist-fueled coverage.
Not only that, but because of you and all of our partners and supporters, here are just a few things we’ve been able to do:
- Support emerging journalists with the Jack Layton Journalism for Change Fellowship, where 2019 recipient Olivia Robinson recently published an in-depth examination of the role libraries play in supporting social justice in Canada.
- Strengthen the understanding of labour issues in Canada, and provide job and training opportunities to journalists with our unique Labour Beat reporter role.
- Host the award-winning journalist Karl Nerenberg as a unique voice on Parliament Hill, bringing over 20 years of federal reporting experience to our readers.
- Coordinate special series, such as our Stop Hate and Ontario Fightback series.
Canada needs more independent media reporting. Can you keep the momentum going?
With community funding, rabble.ca provides all of this without a paywall. Because we know that reader-funded media with a commitment to the grassroots is what this country needs. The answer to the crisis in media is in people like you reading and chipping in to support non-profit media. There is no one else we’d rather be accountable to.
So as the holiday season begins, and people get a little more charitable, we ask you to consider us for #GivingTuesday.
Thank you for your support,
Kim Elliott,
