Dear rabble.ca visitors:
In an increasingly connected world, our economic and political realities here in Canada have a direct effect on the livelihoods of communities both at home and abroad. As social justice-minded citizens of Canada and of the world, I (and I’m confident you) believe that we have a critical role to respond to some of the greatest challenges we are facing today worldwide, including war, poverty, and other forms of socio economic injustice.
Those of us who struggle for justice need a media that assumes the struggle exists. We need a media that seeks out the stories of equity seeking groups, and we need a media that is not dependent on corporate advertising. We need rabble.ca.
In my work with Canadian Federation of Students I saw first hand how the struggle for student rights gets framed in the mainstream media. Students who struggle under horrific debt and pay the flat tax of tuition get painted as privileged complainers. I see the mainstream media support Canada’s love affair with tax cuts that have hurt public services. I see how thousands of Indigenous learners are denied access to education, that is their right, yet we hear so little about this crisis.
rabble.ca gets it. rabble exposes the stories and presents analysis that serve people in need.
I’m asking if you can afford a few dollars a month to donate now and keep the crucial work of rabble going. If a monthly donation isn’t possible, any single amount helps. The Canadian Federation of Students is strong because of its members and rabble can only be strong with a community of support keeping rabble free to access for all people. Please chip in today. After you make a donation you can help grow the campaign by telling a friend and asking them to support rabble.
In Solidarity,
Bilan Arte
P.S. Become a monthly supporter of rabble at $8/month or more and chose as a “thank you” gift a copy of either The Reconciliation Manifesto, by Arthur Manuel, with Grand Chief Ronald Derrickson or No is Not enough by Naomi Klein. You can help out at: rabble.ca/donate.
