In this clip, panelist Jim Stanford explains what is in store for Canada’s economy in the coming year and what the political fallout will be.
“It’s going to be a wild and wooly year in the economy and there’s no doubt about it … Economists agree there will be a recession of some kind in Canada in 2023 and shared in most industrial countries. The only question really is what kind of recession it is going to be? The Bank of Canada believes it will be a soft landing … That seems far-fetched. It is not impossible, but it seems unlikely.”
Jim Stanford is an economist and the director of the Centre for Future Work, a labour economics research institute with operations in Canada and Australia. He previously served as economist and director of policy with Unifor.
