‘The well-being of all will impact our ability to get through the pandemic.’ MP Leah Gazan on budget 2021

On April 19, the federal government will share its first budget in two years. rabble.ca’s Off the Hill current affairs panel explored what Monday’s budget must address to move Canada forward post-pandemic. Leah Gazan, MP for Winnipeg Centre reflects as she considers what Monday will bring that “those who were behind before the pandemic are certainly more behind. The pandemic has highlighted these inequalities. Now we know when you do not look after somebody, it impacts everybody in the circle. So the well-being of all will impact our ability to get through the pandemic.”

She is cynical, however, of Liberal government promises for child care — promises the Liberal party has been making for 30 years. “I’m going to keep focused on fighting for human rights. Including the right to fight for a safe, healthy environment as a human right.”
