The Missing Project is a is a public art, consciousness-raising, and community engagement project to focus public attention on the epidemic of mass incarceration in Chicago. They created this toolkit chocked full of ideas about how to make those who have been incarcerated visible and draw attention to the oppression of the Prison Industrial Complex. They have made this guide to lend ideas to community activists about how to start a discussion about hyper-incarceration through a creative lens to show the real impact on families, friends and communities.
Each project overview involves a summary of what it entails, its goals, items needed, outlines for different organizations and public presentation. From letter writing parties to public art installations the toolkit has many ideas as well as activities to use during workshops. The guide also includes a brief overview of the Theatre of the Oppressed (using theatre in demonstrations) and how to write basic workshops about the Prison Industrial Complex based on discussion and experiences of community members.
