Dispelling myths perpetuated in the mainstream media or by political pundits can sometimes be a challenge. This is never so true as it is when attempting to weed through a politician’s or political campaign’s material and spot the lies. Conservatives like nothing better than to foil the opposition by spreading myths about the “socialist agenda” or alleged hypocritical actions by more progressive leaders.

This new project from Media Matters, called Mythopedia, is a super cool resource you can use to learn the background and validity of some of these conservative claims. While its launch focused on American political content, there are of course many links to Canadian issues, and it remains a unique example of political-myth-dispelling that could eventually be exentended beyond American politics. Essentially, users can search a term or phrase to bring up results and information on the accuracy of the claim or story.

Described as a “Wikipedia for conservative misinformation,” sites like Mythopedia are an essential way to challenge the inaccuracies repeated by mainstream media and political PR machines to bring truth to the people.
