This week Karl Nerenberg and Cathy Crowe both took on the need for a real plan to address COVID-19 in vulnerable populations as part of rabble.ca‘s coverage of the spread of COVID-19.

In Ontario, hospitals are already at 100 per cent capacity according to an interview last year with Michael Hurley, and the health sector continues to face cuts. In Alberta, the Kenney government is proposing additional cuts as well. This is when we need to fight for better funding and supports for our health-care system not for cuts. Many of the ideas, like the $1-billion COVID-19 Employment Insurance (EI) package, may not address the needs of many vulnerable Canadians who are not covered by EI.

Please write to your provincial and federal representatives. Let them know that we need more support for vulnerable populations. Here is a tool from Legalline which helps you find your MP and provides a generic guideline for what should be in the letter.
