MyCityHall.ca is a free open platform created by Open North where citizens can influence, track and learn about decisions in their city. Attempts by municipal governments to make information from city hall accessible have often been bogged down with issues. Citizens may have to wade through pages of an agenda to find when the issue they’re interested in is being discussed or rely on information that is rarely updated. MyCityHall.ca aggregates information that cities already release and makes it easier to search, share and understand.
Councillors at the municipal level are the easiest to lobby and get on board in an activist campaign. MyCityHall.ca allows activists to ask questions to councillors directly, creating a shared memory and a paper trail of sorts. It can also be used to track motions and voting history of councillors. Instead of trying to find when a subject of interest arises in any given committee by monitoring agendas, MyCityHall.ca allows you to sign up for email updates when a subject of interest arises in any part of city hall. The project hopes to connect citizens to their municipal politics in an accessible and sharable way.
MyCityHall.ca is currently raising funds on indiegogo and hopes to launch in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.
