Abusive mining projects are frighteningly common across Latin and Central America. Almost every country – from Honduras to El Salvador – is engaged in some sort of battle to end damaging construction, extraction, or pollution resulting from mining projects. The kicker is that most of the companies responsible for this widespread devestation are Canadian. These corporations are happily flourishing and raking in big profits in a consequence-and-regulation-free environment here in Canada.
Many, many activist groups are currently campaigning to end these abuses and are doing some great work to support affected communities. But if you don’t have the time to commit to that sort of activism, you can still contribute to ending unjust and environmentally-destructive minig projects.
This petition targets gold mining in the beautifully diverse Amazon basin in Peru. Support the people and nature of Madre de Dios.
