In her recent blog post on rabble.ca, Cathy Crowe commends the Toronto Star’s long term focus on the plight of the homeless. However, despite the attention, the deaths of people who are homeless continue to mount.

After years of pressure, 2015 was a big year for commitments The Federal government has proposed increased funding to end homelessness by $50 million in the 2016 budget.  The Ontario government has announced a plan to “end homelessness in Ontario“  in the coming decade as part of their poverty reduction strategy.   Now that these commitments have been made, we will have to see how they are implemented.

British Columbia, however, still lacks any such strategy.  Megaphone magazine, a magazine serving homeless and low income vendors, is circulating a petition demanding action on homelessness.  Sign on here.
