A poem by Gaza’s Ark Steering Committee member, Montreal poet, Ehab Lotayef.
This is a poetic translation of Khaled el-Haber’s Arabic song.
In Gaza, we’re doing fine.
How about you?
Under the shelling, we are OK
How’s your day?
Our wounded covered by rubble,
our children sleeping in tents
at night ask about you:
Are you still alive?
In Gaza, we’re doing fine. How about you?
Our back to the sea
we resist
Facing a ruthless enemy
still, we resist
We have some food,
a few makeshift weapons
and far too much Peace initiatives
We’re thankful for your support!
In Gaza, we’re doing fine. How about you?
Our wounds, our demolished homes,
our violated skies, our teary eyes,
our bloodied faces …
and our coffins
protect us from your false promises
your empty words
and your Peace initiatives
We, in Gaza, are doing fine
How are you doing?
How are you doing?
Under the falling bombs, we are OK
How about you?
