Exciting news!
As previously alluded to, the Babble Book Club will be hosting Vancouver-based author Kevin Chong for a discussion of his novel — and current Babble Book Club selection — Beauty Plus Pity Sunday June 24 3 p.m. EST/ 12 p.m. PST. Kevin will join the conversation for one hour on our previously established babble thread to answer all your questions and receive your comments.
As always in the Babble Book Club, we encourage readers to participate and discuss their thoughts and opinions about the novel while reading — inciting debate and thought amongst other readers. On Tuesday June 17, about a week before the final discussion, I will compile some potential questions based on the ongoing discussion to send to Kevin in hopes of creating a more moderated and organized conversation for everyone. However, we do encourage readers to continue the discussion up until the final conversation and beyond, offering any comments and questions as they see fit with respect to everyone on the forum. Check out some of our previous conversations with Lynn Coady and Farzana Doctor for clarification as well.
For those wanting to join the discussion, here are some easy steps and tips:
- To ask questions and submit comments, you must register as a rabble.ca user, which creates an account that allows access to babble! babble is rabble.ca’s discussion board and online community where users can discuss ideas and opinions and signing up is free and easy! Any questions about babble can be answered or asked on this thread as well the babble FAQ page.
- The Babble Book Club sets up babble threads before our final discussion to promote ongoing conversation – check out our existing thread for Beauty Plus Pity. A babble thread just means the ‘page’ where various babble users (babblers) can post their comments and questions. Babblers post in ‘real-time’ and can also quote other users, use emoticons or post links!
- Our author discussion with Kevin Chong will take place Sunday June 24 3 p.m. EST/ 12 p.m. PST in ‘real-time’, which just means more Babble Booke Club members will be presents at this time for a more interactive conversation. After the ‘official discussion’ the thread will remain open for readers to post questions and comments; however, they may not be responded to immediately!
So grab a copy of Beauty Plus Pity from your local, CanLit loving bookstore, closest library or the friendly staff at Arsenal Pulp Press (they’ll get it in the mail immediately!) and start reading with us. Some have already finished the book, others have yet to begin, most are a few pages deep and excited to keep going, but all of us invite you to read along and join the Babble Book Club!
Happy reading!
