The M.U.C.K. (Movies of Un-Common Knowledge) Film Festival and Forum gets started today in Toronto. The opening gala is a screening of the film Fuel, starting at 7:30 p.m. at The Royal Theatre, 608 College Street.
The festival runs to Oct. 4, featuring a number of Canadian premieres. Festival founder Dr. Stuart Samuels explains the festival “is organized to showcase films that aim to tear back the veil of mass media mis-information, providing audiences with a chance to see and discuss documentary films that present an ‘un-common knowledge’ and that can serve as a catalyst for individual action and meaningful social change in areas that affect our daily lives — human rights, the environment, and political, economic and corporate power.”
“M.U.C.K. Films enlighten, enrage, engage and change us to re-think our point of view of everyday reality. They motivate us to take action. They offer new progressive points of view on issues and problems that dominate the news and offer new perspectives that are ignored or marginalized by everyday mass media.”
rabble.ca is a media sponsor of this new festival. Political activist and film subject Ward Churchill and rabble editor Derrick O’Keefe will be speaking on a panel following the Friday, Oct. 2, 9:15pm Canadian premiere of the documentary Shouting Fire: Stories From The Edge of Free Speech.
