Sana Malik is a writer with extensive experience in international and community development. Born in the UK to Pakistani immigrants, she grew up between London, UK and the East Coast of Canada. She first gained an interest in multimedia storytelling while documenting cases of gender persecution in West Africa using local popular theatre as an education tool. This experience inspired her focus on innovative ways of conveying untold stories from communities globally. After her degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Toronto, she gained further field experience in Latin America, Lebanon, Tanzania and the UK bringing specialized knowledge in issues of global politics and international development. Sana previously edited a collection of Oral Narratives on Post-9/11 Injustice in America for McSweeney’s Voice of Witness series and was the editor and co-founder of Thisisworldtown.com portraying the first-person views and narratives of racialized, diaspora and ethnic minority youth and artists. Sana has a Masters in Public Health and recently decided to make a full time switch to journalism hoping to mobilize the power of the pen to expose injustice before the focus becomes about responding simply with band-aid solutions.
