World Humanitarian Day is held annually on 19 August since 2008.  The date was selected by the United Nations in memory of the 2003 attack on UN headquarters in Baghdad that killed 22 people.  This day commemorates the aid work performed by humanitarians around the world, and the sacrifices that often accompany this relief work.

The 2012 “I Was Here” campaign encouraged individuals to celebrate World Humanitarian Day through local volunteer projects and other acts of kindness
