Canada’s response to secret police Bill C-51 is unprecedented.

Since launching the Bill in late January, the new law has steadily fallen out of favour with Canadians.

It’s not hard to understand why. C-51 would recklessly undermine our privacy rights, allowing CSIS to act like a secret police force. The bill is so vaguely worded that it could censor free expression, forcing the takedown of online content and silencing critics of government policy.

We’re going to make sure this law gets scrapped and let the government know once and for all that we won’t stand for mass, indiscriminate spying.

On Monday, April 13, just before MPs return to Parliament for the spring session, we’ll be launching a Thunderclap Twitter campaign, to start a nationwide Week of Education about Bill C-51. This coordinated Twitter platform will automatically tweet your message at the government on our behalf. Thanks to our efforts, they’ve announced several small amendments to the law. Unfortunately, none of these amendments go nearly far enough. Now that the government has admitted the bill is fundamentally flawed, we need them to withdraw it and go back to the drawing board. That’s why we need to act now.
