Hi! I’m Gabriela Calugay-Casuga, rabble’s labour reporter. As someone who is passionate about the power of journalism, I am thrilled to bring you stories about the labour movement’s fights for justice. Through my independent reporting, I amplify workers’ voices that are often missing from traditional media.
However, truthful reporting on labour rights is not popular with corporate powers. This means we need independent support to continue amplifying workers’ voices. Your support will allow me to share workers’ and unions’ achievements and struggles with readers across the country and beyond.
Labour reporting then and now
I am proud to uphold rabble’s decades-long commitment to the labour movement. Since joining the rabble team, I’ve reported on the exploitation Filipinos face through the Temporary Foreign Workers Program, the Public Service Alliance of Canada’s fight for fairer wages and mandatory anti-racism training, and how activism work defies capitalism.
For me, Labour Day is about reflecting on the history of the labour movement and taking action to ensure the future is more equitable. I hope you will join me today to bring workers’ issues into national discussions and amplify the ongoing battles for safer workplaces. Every monthly contribution, from $3 or more, means the stories of workers and unions do not stay in the shadows.
We need to amplify marginalized voices because the news is often written by, for, and about a privileged few. At rabble, we put workers first.
In solidarity,
Gabriela Calugay-Casuga
Labour reporter
P.S. If you sign up as a new monthly supporter today, you’ll be entered to win a union-made tote bag with our new ‘I heart rabble.ca’ design. While media democracy is its own reward, there’s nothing more stylish than supporting equitable work practices.
