On Sunday July 27, two protests collided in Queen’s Park, Toronto: Toronto Families Stand with Gaza – Protest the Attacks! and a “freedom and democracy” rally held by Canadians for Israel.
Toronto Families Stand with Gaza protested the attack on Gaza and the Canadian government’s complicity with Israeli actions with a child-focused rally and march to the Israeli consulate in Toronto.
A soccer game, held before the march, allowed children to “play without fear of bombings or being shot. Playing like children in Gaza should be able to play,” the group’s facebook page annouced.
The “freedom and democracy” rally, a Pro-Israel event, gathered to show support for Israel and the Canadian government’s political decisions, and, as some have suggested, counter the pro-Palestine protests.
Both protests took place a day after two other large israel and Gaza protests that saw thousands gather at Queen’s Park.
