The reply from NWT Premier McLeod

July 17, 2013

Dear Premier McLeod:

I would like to express my concern regarding the high rate of poverty in our country and encourage you to make affordable housing a top priority when you host the Council of the Federation by putting pressure on the federal government to:

1) Fund the $1.7 billion in expiring annual operating funds for social housing providers.

2) Implement a robust national housing strategy.

With over 3 million living in poverty and 200,000 homeless persons in Canada, action must be taken!

Yours sincerely,
GEORGE LESSARD

Dear Mr. Lessard:

Thank you for your email regarding the upcoming meeting of the Council of the Federation that I will be attending.

Minister R.C. McLeod is the current Chair of the Provincial/Territorial Forum of Ministers Responsible for Housing and we have been working with other provinces and territories to focus attention on the issue of affordable and sustainable housing.

Addressing housing needs is a priority of the 17th Legislative Assembly, and I do intend to raise the issue with Premiers from across Canada at our meeting in Niagara-on-the Lake.

I appreciate your interest in this matter.

Sincerely

Robert R. McLeod
