Days away from the election, babble is abuzz with the latest news, views and opinions on just what is going on in the lead up to October 19. In this our final babble election roundup we’ll look at the polls, the resignations, the scandals and pretty much anything to do with the election!

Whether you pay attention to the polls or not, there is no doubt that out latest polling thread is indicating that we’ll be looking at a Liberal minority government with a Conservative opposition. However, we’re still days away and anything can happen. Like, say, a Liberal campaign chief courting big oil before a single vote has been tallied.

Everyone is talking about Liberal campaign co-chair Dan Gagnier resigning over an email to TransCanada (the ones behind the massive Energy East pipeline project), telling them how to lobby a Liberal government and dominate national energy policy. Is this the latest example of a Liberal back room deal, or is it — as Gagnier puts it — a “distraction”? Read about it here.

How does the idea of strategic voting sit with you? Babblers discuss their options and give their opinions on how effective voting strategically is or if it’s a mistake to vote against your inclination just to get rid of Harper.

“One of the failures of both he Liberal and NDP campaign is a refusal to state clearly to the public that this is no ordinary campaign. That this is a government with a serious record of subverting institutions and democratic process.” Agree? Disagree? Read about it here.

If you’re wondering how the rest of the world is seeing our federal election, this thread has links to articles in the international press that offer a different perspective.

Regardless of what government we wake up to on October 20, you can count on babble and its contributors to provide a diversity of opinion and perspective.
