rabble.ca needs to get on the Hill and thanks to the support of many of you, we are already almost half-way to our community fundraising goal!
Only a few days into the campaign and we are $2,000 towards our goal of a $5,000 reader contribution to help put award-winning journalist Karl Neremberg on Parliament Hill and with your support we can do it.
It seems the need for a reporter for the rest of us gets more urgent every day. Harper has just declared that the biggest threat Canadians face is not the climate crises, not lack of housing or jobs, not food or water security, not our structural inequalities, not even our aging population. No, for the prime minister our biggest threat is “Islamic terrorism.”
We need to change the narrative coming out of the Parliament. We need to have stories about issues that really matter to Canadians. We need Karl Neremberg covering Parliament.
– Karl has been a journalist for over 25 years including eight years as the producer of the CBC show The House.
– He has written scripts for documentary films and long-form television reports for such shows as Le Point and Actuel on Radio Canada television and The Journal on CBC-TV.
– Karl founded and, for five years, edited the magazine Federations: What’s new in federalism worldwide.
– He has been awarded a Gemini award, a Best International Documentary Series award (from “la communauté des televisions francophones”), a CBC Radio Award for Best New Series (C’est la vie) among others.
– As a broadcaster, Mr. Nerenberg produced and directed television series and documentaries in a wide range of genres and on a great variety of subjects — from civil war in Central America, to the crisis in South Africa’s Apartheid system.
– Mr. Nerenberg works in both English and French — which is still quite rare among Canadian broadcasters and journalists.
Activist and journalist Judy Rebick said “I can’t think of anyone who could better translate the workings of Parliamentary politics to rabble’s readership [than Karl Nerenberg].” Time is running out, Parliament starts on September 18th, please make your donation now.
