hawksleyklein v72

On Thursday Nov. 11 at 8 p.m., internationally acclaimed author Naomi Klein, Juno award winning singer, musician Hawksley Workman, comic Martha Chaves and electronic group LAL take the stage in Toronto at the Great Hall, 1087 Queen St. W. to raise funds for the G20 arrestees. But you don’t have to be in Toronto to see the concert or contribute to the fundraising efforts. rabble tv will be live streaming the event and providing a link for you to make a contribution to the defence fund in a virtual telethon. Tune in here at 8 p.m. ET to join.

This is the first major public fundraising effort for the over 300 people charged last June during the G20 summit in Toronto during the largest mass arrest in Canadian history. Some face deportation, while others are still in jail, denied bail due to poverty, or mental health barriers. Approximately 100 are still facing charges and lengthy court proceedings.

While criticism of police action during the G20 grows, those still facing charges, some of which are very serious, need financial support for their legal costs. . The G20 Legal Fund distributes legal financing on the basis of need, and risk. Trustees for the fund include Ed Broadbent and Winnie Ng.

We estimate approximately $400,000 in legal costs by the time the trials are over. We need your help to raise that amount.

Tickets: $50 in advance, $60 at the door

You can purchase tickets online for the pre-event and main event or the main event only at Gallery AC.
