The Gen Why Media Project is a community-building initiative situated within a generational context. We use participatory media, public events, workshops and public art in order to adjust, annotate and re-imagine civic engagement in post-industrial urban landscapes.
Over the past year, the Gen Why Media Project has evolved from two women talking about social change at film school to a multidisciplinary, multi-faceted project and production house, exploring how the current generation of young people is transforming the status quo as they come of age.
The New Era blog on rabble.ca is our way of demonstrating how young change agents are successfully using new tools and new approaches to re-imagine politics, commerce, culture, faith, collaboration, democracy and community. We explore how our generation’s collective beliefs, shared responsibility and irresistible desire to change the world will be what saves the planet and brings humanity together. We will write about young people, projects, companies, organizations, movements and ideas that are successfully using new tools and new approaches to living.
WHY?
– Because right now more than half of the world’s population is under 35.
– We are the most connected, most informed and most diverse generation in history.
– We are old enough to vote and young enough to be idealistic.
– We are old enough to hold jobs and young enough to be in school.
– We are old enough to have children and young enough to be globetrotting.
– Many of us come from countries that 20 years ago weren’t considered sources of immigration.
– We are the spawn of globalization, rapid technological change, connectivity and environmental crisis.
– We have more questions than there are answers.
– We have the collective power to create whatever we want and the social web is our village square.
