Reading or watching the news these days you would think that unions are killing jobs, poor people are lazy, the environment is doing just fine and austerity and tax cuts bring prosperity. Together we can change the conversation. Together we can change the media landscape and tell the stories that need to be told. Please make it happen with your donation at rabble.ca/donate.

At rabble.ca we tell stories of social movements, we ask tough questions, we report on the news that matters. We have been doing this since 2001, making our news accessible to the public, regardless of ability to pay. We can only do this with support from our community of readers and visitors who can chip in a bit. Ad revenue doesn’t come remotely close to meeting our already small budget. We don’t get subsidies. We don’t have any super-rich sponsors cutting huge cheques (but we are certainly open to large cheques, no problem there).

What we have is community support. The support of people across Canada (and beyond) keeps us going. If you make donations to organizations that matter to you, please make one to rabble.ca. We make it super easy to quickly contribute at rabble.ca/donate.

Our fundraising goal through this annual donation drive is to raise $20,000 from readers. Can we do it? We believe we can. To push the odds in our favour we have a few fun prizes to add to the mix. Each week donors ($20 or more) will have a chance to win a rabble prize pack featuring our “good news pass it on” tote bag, rabble fridge magnet, best of rabble book and maybe a few other surprises.

Your donation changes the political conversation.

You won’t find a lot of “horse-race” political news coverage on rabble, instead you will read from award-winning journalist Karl Nerenberg about how omnibus bills destroy the foundation of democracy. You’ll read award-winning journalist Penney Kome’s coverage of Harperland. Your support means that rabble can do things like livestream the counter-summit to the Conservative convention. Your support means political coverage from columnists, bloggers and podcasters who provide news for the rest of us.

Your donation changes the labour conversation.

Harper and gang are waging an all-out war against unions. Want to know how labour rights are being gutted? Read and support rabble. Want to know how unions are rallying for higher minimum wage? Read and support rabble. Want to know how workers are organizing around the world? Read and support rabble.

Your donation changes the colonial conversation.

Before big media starting paying attention, rabble.ca had a special focus on the Idle No More movement and we haven’t moved on. We will keep reporting on Indigenous justice movements and news. From bloggers like Pam Palmater, Chelsea Vowel and Dan Wilson you get analysis you don’t find in the mainstream. If this reporting is important to you, please chip in today.

Your donation changes the environmental conversation.

They say “oil sands” but we say “tar sands.” From analysis to action, we cover a lot of environmental ground. Your support means news for the rest of us on the climate crisis, news for the rest of us on food security, news for the rest of us on energy production. Keep the stories coming with your pledge.

Your donation of $20, $50, $100, $250, $1,000 is very important to the survival of rabble.ca. We have hundreds of thousands of visitors looking at millions of pages and we thank you for being one of them. We also thank you for any support you have given us. Right now only a few hundred people contribute but we need thousands. Right now Canada needs voices that are changing the conversation, and rabble.ca needs your support to amplify those voices.

Will you help us build and strengthen our work by donating to rabble.ca

We know you believe in alternative media and we thank you for visiting rabble for your “news for the rest of us.”

P.S. Every year we produce a thorough annual report so the community knows how we spent its money to bring our news to the world. The 2012 Annual Report can be found at: www.rabble.ca/about/annualreport
