Trump hypocritically accuses others of forced labour to justify tariffs. Sadly, the accusation is not false.

U.S. President Trump got rid of almost all U.S. programs aimed at ending modern-day slavery (and thus protecting U.S. workers against unfair competition). Then, to provide a legal basis for new tariffs, Trump disingenuously claimed others, including Canada, tolerate forced labour. That is quintessential U.S. chutzpah. Still, Canada has not been effective in assuring there is no forced and child labour in this country’s supply chains.
